The Witness was an indy game that came out in 2016, and took place on an island full of puzzles. I worked on it for several years and helped create the visual style of the game. We ended up going with a fairly clean look, emphasizing color and shape over textures. This was important to help make the puzzles be as clear as possible to the player, but also gave the game a fresh and colorful look that helped it stand out from the crowd.
